Funny Yoga
Search online for Kids Yoga, and you’re sure to find Jamie Amor and Cosmic Kids yoga. Tens of millions of views on youtube and a recommendation from a friend / teacher / parent and we are hooked.
In our house, we call this Funny Yoga, because Jamie knows know how to teach and keep the kids attention. She is super silly which my daughter loves. A few slow bits here and there are good to focus their minds, but she keeps it moving and most important is focused on FUN.
For my kids, I do like to practice with them. When I let them try it on their own, I find that they tend to watch more than participate, but if I’m in the room with them participating, they really get into it. Starting out each lesson with Namaste, they sit and we get some peaceful moments of mindfulness while we focus on doing yoga.
My kids also love to prepare the room for yoga, by setting down a blanket for each of us.
Needless to say, for busy parents looking for an easy activity to start out with, Cosmic Kids is perfect. My kids are 4 and 6, and I think most kids up to 7 will enjoy this. I’d say 2 and a half to 7 years old are good for the “funny yoga” videos.
Here is an intro from Jamie:
I have also noticed Jamie is taking it to a new level! I’ve seen her putting out lessons on mindfulness that I think are for older kid range, and even better (and what I love about writing these posts) is that I just visited her website for the first time. It really has a lot of great information about who they are and the lessons and goals of what they are offering. (Learning and being a better parent is why I write these posts, and sharing is a great opportunity to dig deeper and make connections I would not normally make)
I will post again about the mindfulness videos when our family is ready to dive in and let you know our experience!
