Sensory Games A Family Traditiona

Writing on your kids backs. This was one of my favorite things my Aunt Barb would do, and my mom too. Thus, I’m guessing it has been passed down a few generations in my family from my grandmother Ruth Baker.

Today, when one of my kids is restless or whining about not having anything to do, I can turn their attention away from the whining and back to being present. It is a joyful experience not just for the kids, but also getting a few minutes with your child in a calm relaxed state is truly priceless.

The activity is Super Simple. Get your child to lie down close to you, or even on you. Take your finger and slowly draw a letter. The key is to do it slowly enough that they are paying attention to the feeling.

When they are young, I just say the name of the letter while I am writing it. As they get older, you can have them guess the letters, and spell things out. I think I would still enjoy this activity as an adult!
